News – Revealed: How plans to fly Governor Chime back failed because of bad health

Attempts to fly ailing Governor Sullivan Chime of
Enugu State back to the country in December from
India to celebrate Christmas and New Year with his
family proved abortive following the deterioration of
his health during the trip, a competent source told ME
The entire Government House, Enugu, and Chime’s
personal residence in Udi, his country home, were
lavishly decorated with Christmas trees and lightings
a week before Christmas as part of preparations to
receive the governor, who ostensibly left the country
in September 2012 to spend his accumulated leave
abroad.
According to the source, the governor who is
suspected to be suffering from terminal disease had
a relapse when he arrived in London from India,
forcing his aides and relatives who accompanied him
on the trip to take him back to his hospital bed in
India.
The source said that the decision to bring him back
to the country to celebrate Christmas and New Year
was based on the need to douse the tension in the
state generated by his long absence from duty.
Governor Chime had, prior to his departure from the
country, addressed a letter to the speaker, Enugu
State House of Assembly, Barrister Eugene Odo,
indicating that he was travelling abroad to spend his
accumulated leave, but, according to sources, the
letter did not specify the duration of the leave,
neither was it brought to the notice of several
members of the legislature.
The deputy governor, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, has
since then been standing in as acting governor, but
sources close to Government House, Enugu, alleged
that Onyebuchi has limited functions since he cannot
award contracts or approve expenditure worth more
than a million naira.
There are strong indications that the state House of
Assembly would on resumption from Christmas and
New Year recess deliberate on the whereabouts of
the governor and, according to a member of the
house, “take appropriate action”.
According to section 189(1) of the Constitution of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), “the
governor or deputy governor of a state shall cease to
hold office if (a) by a resolution passed by two-thirds
majority of all members of the executive council of
the state, it is declared that the governor or deputy
governor is incapable of discharging the functions of
his office; and (b) the declaration in paragraph (a) of
this sub-section is verified, after such medical
examination as may be necessary by a medical panel
established under sub-section in its report to the
speaker of the House of Assembly.”
And sub-section 2 says that “where the medical
panel certifies in its report that in its opinion the
governor or deputy governor is suffering from such
infirmity of body or mind as renders him
permanently incapable of discharging the functions
of his office, a notice thereof signed by the speaker of
the House of Assembly shall be published in the
official gazettee of the government of the state”.
The governor or deputy governor, according to sub-
section (3), “shall cease to hold office as from the
date of publication of the notice of the medical report
pursuant to subsection (2) of this section…”
Meanwhile, the leadership of Enugu State
Development Association, ESDA, has said it would
meet with the acting governor soon to get a clue on
the whereabouts of Governor Chime and the nature
of his ill-health.

SPORTS – “Milan will not sign Balotelli, he is a rotten apple” – Berlusconi

Silvio Berlusconi has said AC Milan will not sign Mario
Balotelli, who he described as “a rotten apple”.
Balotelli has been linked with a move to the Serie A
club, after his recent troubles at Manchester City, but
the president of the Italian giants, has effectively
ruled out such transfer.
“The name of Balotelli never came into my thoughts,
he is a rotten apple and could infect every group
where he goes, even Milan,” he said.
“I’m sorry to say this, but in Milan is very important
to the human aspect. If you put a rotten apple in the
locker room can infect all the others.”
Milan are looking to bolster their strikeforce, after
Pato returned to Brazil, to sign for Corinthians.

Casillas picks Ramos over Ronaldo & Gerrard backs Messi: Who voted for who in 2012 Fifa Ballon d’Or?

Etugbo.wordpresscom analyses who some of the game’s biggest
names voted for in the award and breaks down the
final results after the Barcelona star triumphed for a
fourth time
Lionel Messi has won his fourth Ballon d’Or title,
scooping the prestigious individual award over
runner-up Cristiano Ronaldo and third-place team-
mate Andres Iniesta.
Radamel Falcao finished up in fifth, behind another
Barcelona stalwart, Xavi, while Iker Casillas came in
at sixth.
Andrea Pirlo, Didier Drogba, Robin van Persie and
Zlatan Ibrahimovic made up a star-studded final top
10 for the calendar year of 2012.
After the awards ceremony, Fifa has released an
intriguing list of the full votes for the award, which is
decided based on decisions made by international
coaches, captains and a selection of media
representatives from each member nation.
The voting list reveals some decisions that would
raise few eyebrows, but other ones that can be
considered as particularly surprising.
In England’s votes, both manager Roy Hodgson and
captain Steven Gerrard voted for the brilliant Messi
as their winner, with Ronaldo in second.
They differed with their decisions for third-place,
though, as the Three Lions boss went for Falcao,
while the Liverpool captain opted for former team-
mate Xabi Alonso.
For Spain, boss Vicente Del Bosque, who himself
was recognised on the night with the Coach of the
Year award, went for three of his own players;
Casillas, Xavi and Iniesta in the top three positions.
Casillas himself had a vote and very surprisingly
opted for club and international team-mate Sergio
Ramos as his No.1 pick, with Ronaldo only second
ahead of Iniesta, perhaps hinting at why the
Portuguese ace felt his club were not fully supportive
of his Ballon d’Or bid.
Messi had a vote as captain for Argentina and did
not select Ronaldo in his top three at all, opting for
Iniesta, Xavi and Sergio Aguero. Alejandro Sabella
voted for Messi, with Ronaldo also absent from his
selections.
Portugal matched that tactic, as Bruno Alves, who
was voting in place of Ronaldo, went for his team-
mate as top pick with Messi not in the top three,
although Paulo Bento did name the Argentine in
third.
Italy boss Cesare Prandelli voted for his star player
Pirlo over Gianluigi Buffon and then Messi, while
Buffon himself also went for the Juventus midfielder
as his top choice.
Philipp Lahm backed Iniesta over Messi and
Ronaldo, while Germany coach Joachim Low voted
Mesut Ozil, Manuel Neuer and Xavi as his top three.
France coach Didier Deschamps backed Messi over
Ronaldo and Xavi, while Hugo Lloris stayed loyal to
the goalkeepers’ union by voting Casillas as No.1
over Falcao and Drogba.
Brazil skipper Thiago Silva’s votes were
unremarkable, with Messi beating Ronaldo to top
spot and his PSG team-mate Ibrahimovic in third.
Louis van Gaal voted for Messi over Ronaldo and
Falcao, while Netherlands captain Wesley Sneijder
voted Van Persie over Messi (second) and Ronaldo
(third).
Darren Fletcher, who was casting votes as Scotland
captain, backed former team-mate Ronaldo at No.1,
with Messi and club team-mate Robin van Persie as
his other selections.

Entertainment – Olu Maintain drops a new track featuring 50cent nd Olivia titled hypnotize me

Olu Maintain: My Collabo With 50 Cent

Nigeria’s very own Award-winning singer, Olu
Maintain’s R&B single ‘Nawti’, released last year,
enjoyed impressive reviews from pundits at home
and abroad, winning a couple of awards. His new
single, ‘Hypnotize Me’ featuring American rapper
50 Cent and velvet-voiced songbird Olivia, was
released yesterday. The singer hopes to make a
big impact in the industry with this musical
‘marriage’. He speaks on how he has fared in the
recent past, his new plans and sundry issues.
On Winning NMVA Award: ”It just makes me feel that
hard work has indeed paid off, having been quiet for
about three years and nominations popping out
everywhere to the extent that ‘Nawti’ won the Best
Video of NEA Awards in New York.
“‘Nawti’ was also nominated as the Best R&B Song at
the Hip Hop World Awards, and I learnt that the only
reason it wasn’t nominated as the Best Video at the
Hip Hop World Awards was that no video directed by a
foreigner is ever nominated. I don’t know why. They
should have asked because the director of ‘Nawti’
video is Kehinde Nayomi Smith, and she’s a Nigerian.
She was in Nigeria recently for the first time when I
won the NMVA Award.
“But going forward, 2012 has been a very eventful year
because my target was to release the album for 2012.
With success of Nawti and the dynamism which the
music industry was taking, I slowed down on the songs
I had recorded initially because I have not been
satisfied that I have put in my best into the ‘CHOOSEN
ONE’ album. So, I went back to the studio and stared
recording again. But now, I can confidently say that the
album is coming out in the first quarter of this year and
the second track on the album titled ‘Hypnotize Me’
features two international artistes.”
On the Title Of the Album: ”The reason it’s ‘CHOOSEN
ONE’ with double ‘o’ is that it’s a ten-track album, and
each of the letters that come together to form the
acronym, represents each track on the album.
“There’s a remix of ‘Nawti’ in the works, and I found a
new PR team in America called KNX based in Los
Angeles and they’re trying to stock my songs and see
the possibility of it pre-listed on mainstream radio and
the response has been positive. They’re the ones
making collaborations with the international acts that
I’ve been working with.
“For me, doing collaboration with any international
artiste should not just be by the star power of the
artiste; it should be by merit that this artiste can
genuinely do justice to the song in question. So, if I
was asked who I would love to do collaboration with, a
female singer that is equally as pretty and has a
beautiful voice, my choice would be Olivia because
I’ve always been her fan. So, when we met and I
played her the song, she liked it and said she was
willing to do it. Then we met in New York at the
Platinum Studio owned by Jerry Wonder, one of the
most sought after producers in the world.
“Coincidentally, Olivia is Jerry Wonder’s new artiste as
well. 50 Cent has his lines on this track too. And there
was this chemistry upon our meeting and we did the
song with a beautiful experience and the video too is
on the way.
“Everything is pretty much falling into place and I’m
more than happy that I’ve waited this long. In terms of
quality, you should never compromise because you
have the obligation to always beat your best. So far,
my name has evolved from Mr. Yahooze to Mr. Nawti.
So, I look at ‘Nawti’ as the best effort that I’ve put out
there and Hypnotize Me has to come to beat what
Nawti has done.”
Assesment Of the Industry In 2012: “In all fairness, the
industry has evolved bigger and more eventful in 2012.
The Nigerian music industry is breaking more frontiers.
Afro Beat is now a genre that’s now officially accepted
in the UK and the larger parts of Europe and we have
international record labels signing Nigerian artistes.
We have more collaboration with international artistes
as well.
“2012 was big and 2013 is going to be bigger. This is
encouraging from what the industry used to be some
ten years ago. This is just a motivation to keep striving
harder yearning for music that has substance. Nigerian
music industry has gained a lot although; in its growth,
it still lacks some level of development in terms of
structure. Recently, I learnt that COSON has been
able to get some level of publishing for some Nigerian
artistes who have had songs over time. I’ve not got
anything from COSON but that is a welcome
development from COSON because Nigeria is the only
developing country in the world where artistes don’t
get publishing for airplay. Go to the UK and the US,
one of the major income generating avenues for
artistes is shows/concerts but everywhere else in the
world publishing plays a larger part in financial rewards
that an artiste gets. So for COSON to have intervened
to forcefully demand for what is the right of Nigerian
artistes, I think it’s a positive development. It’s like a
marriage. A typical young man is not ready for
marriage but when you find yourself in a situation
where it’s inevitable to be in that circumstance, you
deal with it. You manage it and you excel in it. So, if
the Nigerian media hides behind the excuse that it’s
not ready yet, nothing will move forward. Saying you’re
not developed enough to impact in policies that the
Western world has been doing for decades, you’re
basically running from responsibilities. It’s like a loser’s
statement; that it’s not going to be easy is not an
excuse for it not to start. COSON has started. If
everyone has that mentality that we want to follow the
structure that we look up to in the west, then it can in
no way be a step in the wrong direction.”
2013 Of My Dream: ”2012 for me was a production
phase. It was a phase where Olu Maintain came out of
a three-year hiatus and when he came out, he made a
statement. So, the Olu Maintain brand is now known
as one that doesn’t make a statement every time, but
when it does, he gets it right. Coming up from a split in
a group called Maintain, it made a global statement
with Yahooze. And after three years hiatus, he made a
statement again with Nawti, both the video and audio
and won awards. So, in 2013, you can only expect that
the production phase is over and it’s now an exhibition
phase. Tours, endorsements, concerts are in the offing
for the brand Olu Maintain in 2013.”
Collaboration With Nigerians: ”There’s a track in my
album titled ‘Naija A-list’, and it’s a beat produced by a
young producer, Yung D. He has produced quite a
number of successful songs in 2012 and one of them
is Timaya’s ‘Bum Bum’. This is the part I want to have
collaboration with five best Nigerian rappers, so I
called it ‘Naija A-list’. I have my choices but I’m not
going to subject the feature on the song to my decision
making alone. I want to let my fans decide who the
best five are. It will be an online campaign and people
are going to vote for their five best Naija rappers which
will be like a survey among industry heads and fans
out there.”

HEALTH – How To Burn Fat By Eating Food

Metabolism is your body’s process of turning food, measured in calories, into energy. When your body is in caloric balance, you are consuming as many calories as your body is using. When in caloric deficit, your body is using more calories than you are taking in; when this occurs your body converts stored fat cells into energy, thus burning fat.

Step 1
Determine your body’s caloric needs. According to Medline Plus, if your activity level is low to moderate, you must consume 13 to 15 calories per pound to maintain your weight. One pound of fat contains approximately 3,500 calories, so to lose 1 lb. of fat per week, you should consume approximately 500 fewer calories per day than you need to maintain your weight. Using the above values, calculate the number of calories you must consume to achieve your fat-loss goals.

Step 2
Track your calorie consumption. Using a food diary, keep track of the foods you eat over the course of the day and the number of calories they contain. Aim to consume the number of calories you calculated in Step 1. Menu planning can also play a significant role in using foods to burn fat. Plan your meals in advance in order to distribute your caloric intake evenly over the course of the day.

Step 3
Understand metabolism. If you prefer to not count calories for convenience, certain foods may help burn more fat than others. According to MayoClinic.com, of the energy your body needs to function, a majority is used to keep your body operating normally — fueling organs, for example. A smaller portion is used to perform physical activities like walking, running and exercising, and about 10 percent of the energy your body consumes in a day is used to digest food. According to some studies, some foods actually require more energy to be metabolized than they provide, therefore burning calories and fat.

Step 4
Exchange some of your diet staples for “fat-burning foods” to ensure a lower overall caloric intake without counting calories. Some of these foods include celery, oranges, apples, gmolestfruit, strawberries, pineapple, zucchini and carrots. However, anything used to top these foods or cook them can counteract their fat-burning potential.

Tips and Warnings

The idea of “negative-calorie” foods is still in question. While many doctors agree that digesting certain foods will burn more calories than the foods provide, there isn’t conclusive evidence as to exactly how many negative calories each of these foods contains and whether this is an effective means of burning fat.
Discuss any changes to your diet and exercise habits with your physician. Consuming significantly fewer calories than your body needs to function can trigger your metabolism to slow down; your body will feel as though it’s starving, and slowing metabolism conserves energy. A combination of calorie-burning exercise and lower caloric intake is more effective than diet alone.

Foods That Burn Fat Easily

More people are overweight or obese than ever before, and simple dietary changes can be the solution to a growing problem. No matter your current weight, there are foods that can help amp up your body’s metabolism, causing you to burn more fat and shed some excess pounds. Of course, if you are seeking to make major changes to your body, dietary changes alone will not suffice–you will also need to start and stick with a regular exercise regimen. But if you are looking for a good place to start, your food is a great beginning.

Fish
Fish is a prime source of omega-3 fatty acids and decreases the amount of leptin in your body. Leptin, according to Men’s Health, plays a key role in your metabolism, determining whether your body burns calories or stores them as fat. More leptin in your body makes you more likely to store fat, while lower leptin levels makes you more likely to burn fat.

Lean Meats
Lean beef, turkey, chicken and pork can play a large part in helping you shed fat. The protein within these lean meats requires more energy to digest. So if you are eating more protein, your body will work harder to digest it, burning more calories and fat. The key, though, is that the meat you eat is lean and relatively void of additives. Cut away any fat or skin that may be on the meat, and minimize–or completely avoid–any marinades or sauces that will pack extra calories into your dish.

Hot Peppers
Hot peppers, particularly jalapenos, habaneras and cayennes, help you burn fat by boosting your heart rate. Hot peppers contain a chemical called capsaicin; capsaicin gives peppers their spicy taste and helps boost your metabolism as your body works to cool itself down. Spicy meals, according to Men’s Health, can boost your metabolism by nearly 25 percent, and the boost can last as long as three hours.

Milk, Whole Grain and Oats
Milk, whole grains and oats can help burn fat by providing your body with complex carbohydrates and calcium. Complex carbohydrates and calcium help keep your metabolism going by keeping your insulin levels low after you eat. High insulin production, according to Men’s Health, triggers your body to start storing fat; fat is stored when your metabolism slows. But if your metabolism keeps moving and the insulin stays low, your body will burn fat more easily. Low-fat yogurt is another great source of calcium and produces the same effect on your insulin levels.

Berries and Other Fruits
Berries and other fruits provide your body with healthy doses of fiber, which works two-fold in helping you burn fat. First, fiber helps you feel full for a longer period of time, causing you to eat less in the long run. Second, like calcium and complex carbohydrates, fiber does not greatly boost your body’s insulin production, helping your metabolism burn more fat.

Greens
Vegetables are great foods that help you burn fat easily. Particularly good are asparagus, lettuce and celery. Asparagus helps flush fluids out of your body and contains only 26 calories per cup. Lettuce also minimizes your caloric intake; iceberg lettuce provides only 6 calories per cup. Celery gives only 14 calories per cup. Simply digesting these foods burns more calories than the foods contain, making them very effective fat-burning foods.

The Blood Qur’an – Written With The Blood Of Saddam Hussein

Fanatical lovers who write letters to their beloved in blood, have been heard of. But Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, took this practice to a new level. In the late 1990s, he commissioned a calligrapher to make a copy of the Qur’an, using his own blood as ink. For the project, Saddam donated 7 gallons (27 liters) of blood over the course of two years – the time it took for the book to be completed. The book still exists, and no one knows what to do with it.

For now, Saddam’s blood-inscribed Qur’an is being kept behind locked doors in Baghdad. The unusual book is both sacred and profane, so officials are quite unsure as to how to deal with it. Islamic clerics are confused over the decision to either destroy the book or preserve it as a reminder of the dictator’s brutality. It is most likely that Saddam was quite aware of the controversy his project would spew, given the taboos in Islamic culture over human bodily fluids, but he went ahead with it anyway. His intentions were clear – he had said that the book was his tribute to God because his son had survived an assassination attempt. In the words of one Iraqi citizen, “On one flank had been the government, doing all it could to prevent access”.

The Shia-led regime is highly sensitive to the re-emergence of any symbols that might lionize the remnants of the Ba’athist rank and file, which still orchestrates bombings and assassinations every few days. And then there are the Sunnis themselves, who are fearful of government retribution if they open the doors and of divine disapproval if they treat this particularly gruesome volume of the Qur’an with the reverence of a “holy book”.

Dana Air Denies Paying Celebrities To Board Its Inaugural Flight – Do You Believe Them?

Dana Air have responded to the critics via their Facebook page about the celebrities that were on board their inaugural flight from Lagos to Abuja on Friday January 4th. See it below…
Our attention has been drawn to some online media reports suggesting that celebrities BasketMouth, DIPP, Harrysong, and Buchi, who were among guests on board the Dana Air inaugural flight of Friday, 4th January, 2013, boarded the airplane for financial gains.
We would like to state that these claims are completely untrue. Like all other esteemed guests of the airline, many of which are notable personalities from Nigeria’s entertainment scene, these celebrities have always been a part of the Dana Air family.
See the rest after the cut…

Their decision to be part of the airline’s re-launch was purely out of goodwill, having personally experienced the unrivalled hospitality and world-class services offered by the airline many times before.

We also want to use this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to all our guests, many of whom have sent congratulatory messages and best wishes on the airline’s return, while pledging our commitment to the provision of safe, reliable and world-class air transport services.

Ekiti state Deputy Governor battles with Cancer, Resigns

According to what National Enquirer magazine
reported; There`s every indication that all is not
well within the cabinet of the Dr. Kayode Fayemi-
led Ekiti State government as the deputy governor,
Mrs. Funmi Olayinka is said to have thrown in the
towel in a clandestine move to safe face.
Though still shrouded in secrecy and still being
kept under wrap in Ekiti, the beautiful and
gorgeous woman of substance, Funmi Olayinka, we
gathered reliably must have resigned her
appointment as the State`s second-in-command
due to health reasons.
Inside sources in the State who confided in
National Enquirer disclosed that, the deputy
governor has been battling cancer for quite a while
now before her resolve to step down.
A former banker who rose to an enviable seat of
Head, Corporate Communications in UBA before
she quit for active politics, Funmi Olayinka`s
strong determination and belief in the candidacy of
Dr. Kayode Fayemi when the chips were down
earned her the post of the deputy governor of the
State.
Efforts to get the deputy Chief of Staff, Mojeed
Jamiu to comment on the issue proved abortive as
his phone rang endlessly when we called him. We
shall keep you posted as time goes on.

Over 16,000 foreigners deported from Nigeria for various crimes

Federal Government has deported over 16,000
foreigners in connection with one criminal and
terrorist offence or the other.
This is coming on the heels of the confirmation
Sunday by the Zamfara State Police Command that
about 10 persons were killed at the weekend by
unknown gunmen during a raid on two neighbouring
villages in the state.
While fielding questions from journalists in Abuja at
the weekend, on the efforts to control our porous
borders by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS),
the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro said the
success was achieved through the strenghtening of
operational mechanism of the NIS and cooperation
with other security agencies.
He said more efforts were being made to improve on
the performance of the immigration service with a
view to effectively screen and identify criminally-
minded aliens that are willing tools in the hands of
terrorists.
He noted that foreigners had exploited certain
aspects of ECOWAS protocol that guarantees
freedom of movement of people to penetrate the
Nigerian borders.
Moro said: “Our major challenge is the presence of
foreigners in our means who exploit the provisions of
ECOWAS protocol providing free movement of people
within member countries.
“The presence in our situation of suicide bombings
and bomb blast attacks in our institutions made it
imperative to take certain measures to forstall the
contrived occurrence of these activities”.
“The NIS that is charged with the responsibility of
containing our boarders will rise up to the occasion,
set up the necessary machinery to identify, to screen
and to profile aliens that are in the country with the
view to identify those aliens that are criminally
minded, those that are inimical to the establishment
of the country.”
“In the process, about 16000 of such aliens have
been repatriated as at the time that I am talking to
you because efforts put in place to control our
boarders”, he disclosed.
The minister also promised that with all the
measures in place, Nigeria would enjoy a more stable
and secure society in 2013.
“Given the efforts of the government compare to the
consequences of the actions of the insurgents, given
the determination of the government to acquire and
procure the needed equipment and machinery to
combat the sectarian crises we have in ours hands, I
look at yhe 2013 with hope and with support of all
Nigerians will enjoy better security,” he said.
He explained that the motive for the attack on the
two villages, Makera and Usu, was not known, it said.
It was also unclear whether militant Islamist sect
Boko Haram or a criminal gang were behind it.
“There was an attack in these villages in Zamfara
and people were killed. I think the number is around
10,” Zamfara State police spokesman, Hassan Usman
Talba, said on phone from the scene.
He said the prime suspects were gangs of Fulani
herdsman but that police were still investigating.
The Fulani’s semi-nomadic, cattle-herding way of life
has led to decades of conflict with farming
communities across central and northern Nigeria that
often erupts into violence.
The focus of Nigeria’s Islamist insurgency has been
north-eastern Borno State and surrounding areas,
but a military crackdown this year has pushed it into
several states further south and west, including
Zamfara.
Analysts say the insurgency has also brought a
breakdown of law and order across the North,
creating opportunities for armed gangs and ethnic
militias with scores to settle.
Islamist militancy and associated insecurity are the
biggest threats to stability in Africa’s main oil
exporter.
Boko Haram, which is loosely based on the Afghan
Taliban, killed hundreds last year in a campaign to
impose Sharia or Islamic law.

Breakin News – 3 Missing As Car Plunges Into River In Delta

An Audi 80 saloon car at the weekend plunged into
Agbarho River, on East-West Road in Delta State,
killing three out of the five persons on board,
believed to be workers of an oil servicing company
in Enerhen, Warri, Delta State.
One of the victims was said to be married with four
children. Although no one knew for sure the cause
of the accident, but it was learnt it could have been
due to the foggy weather on Saturday morning.
According to a source, the straightforward plunge
of vehicles into the river in recent times was due to
the failure of the contractor handling that section
of the East-West Road to provide a barrier after the
initial iron barrier was broken down. The victims
were said to be going to work when the accident
occurred.
An eyewitness said that the car plunged into the
river at 5.30 am, and that only two out of the five
occupants came out alive, while the three others
were still missing, six hours after.
Mr. Taiye Akinmola, who claimed to be a brother to
one of the victims, said: “My brother was a staff of
Python Engineering Company at Enerhen. He left
with four staff in his car. I was later called on the
phone by one of the survivors that their car
plunged into the river.
“As I talk to you, my brother is missing with two
others. The caller who is one of the workers said he
swam out of the river with another worker, but my
brother and two other workers were trapped in the
vehicle.”
Divers located the car and brought it ashore at
1:49 pm, but unfortunately, the three others were
not in it.

in recent months as they raid rural villages in
Zamfara and neighbouring Kaduna state, but

Words reaching us can authoritatively reveal that D’Banj is no longer part of the owners of Koko Lounge.
Koko Lounge was co-owned by 3 people, D’banj was one of the trio. The reasons for the break out of D’Banj was said to be because he felt he wasn’t making enough profit from the bar.
Our source revealed that one of the owners of Koko Lounge  is based abroad and is not usually around to manage and do his duties for the business but instead is only interested in the profit available anytime he’s present in the country which didn’t go down well with the other owners as profit depreciated with time.
“Dilution of the Mo’Hits Crew” was part of the agreement as at the time when the bar was launched. The bar takes responsibility of supplying the defunct Mo’Hits crew drinks. This also affect profit maximazation.
The third owner porpularly called “Baba”  has since bought the full ownership of the Bar & Lounge which is located at the third floor of E-Center in Yaba, Lagos. The bar is now known or has been re-branded in name Amalga-Nation.

The Real Reason behind Styl-Plus break up

It is no longer news
that the trio of Shifi
Omoefe, Zeal
Onyecheme and
Tunde Akinsanmi
popularly called Styl
Plus, who hit
Nigeria’s music
scene in 2002 with
the smash singles,
Runaway and
Olufunmi, has gone
their separate ways
after nine years of
doing music. But
what most might not
know is selfish ego, fear of the unknown and
dwindling musical fortunes, contributed to the
group’s demise.
According to what we gathered, the group for a
long time knew their brand was no longer
formidable but were not willing to go down without
a fight. The uncertainty of life outside the name
‘Styl Plus’ held them back, although, briefly.
A source disclosed, “It was only their first album
that made an impact. The second album was
barely felt and the other singles they dropped just
didn’t make any impact. These guys knew the
show was over long ago but they were scared of
letting go. But now the sad truth has hit them that
the brand is dead, they have all decided to go their
separate ways,” the source said.
Another source hints that the real reason the group
fell apart was because of pride: “They were so
popular when Olufunmi hit the airwaves and they
were everywhere.
“Repeated attempts to get them to relocate to
Lagos where the action is, failed. Though, some
members wanted to relocate but one of them who
was doing oil and gas and government contracts
refused and that is the real reason Styl Plus broke
up. Right now, Zeal is feeling very bad about it and
is making attempts to revive his career.
“There is even talk he is discussing with Don Jazzy
to give him a shot at Mavin Records”

Okorocha: My siren is louder than yours

Unprecedented levels of violence and public insecurity or disorder have marred the Nigerian social space, so much indeed that Nigerians at every level now live with a siege mentality. A significant level of this state of siege is encouraged and maintained by irresponsible political leadership.

Two weeks ago, Mrs. Chris Anyanwu, the senator representing Owerri in the Nigerian senate claimed to have been run-off the road on her way to her home in Mbaise by a convoy of vehicles accompanying the Imo state governor, Mr. Rochas Okorocha.

According to the senator, right about Azara-Egbelu, on the Owerri-Umuahia highway, Mr. Okorocha’s convoy, with its blaring siren and phalanx of heavily armed “security men” stopped her own witless driver who apparently had been too slow in getting off the road for the governor to sail through .

The governor’s armed men dragged out the man and beat him mercilessly. Unable to stand the beating any longer, the senator claimed to have intervened: “I rushed out of my car barefoot and started shouting: “I am Senator Chris Anyanwu, please don’t kill my driver.

*Gov Okorocha
But one of the armed men charged at me and threatened to shoot me for running into the governor’s convoy. All these while, the Governor was seated in his car with the glass wound down and I heard him shout at his security men to disarm my orderlies”.

A cardinal ground for the establishment of government, particularly a government of the people by the people has been violated. I speak here of the social contract – the basic principle that legitimate authority is established on the consent of the individual.

People basically come together to organize their society under the rule of law. The principle of the contract recognizes that in consenting to cede their individual freedom to an established government, the individual expects in exchange of his absolute freedom the protection of his rights and liberties by the organized government. A contract exists only when these guarantees are met by either party in the relationship between the state and the individual.

A rational individual consents to give up his or her natural freedom in exchange or in the hopes of obtaining the benefits of political order. In other words, government is the largest mutual benefits society ever created by man as a means of taming the wild and insurgent capacities of the individual.

Without consent to submit to the established and legitimate authority of the state the individual becomes an outlier; he is governed by the natural instincts to survive; he is untamed by law; and societies slip back to natural states of chaos and disorder, or what Thomas Hobbes called “the state of nature.” Nigeria has inched closer and closer to this situation because the legitimacy of the Nigerian state is increasingly questioned by the people.

There is incoherence in the organization of government. There is in fact rapid discontent. The political leadership seems fundamentally disconnected or dissociated from the common reality of those by whom they derive their legitimate authority. The state fails because it can no longer guarantee the safety of Nigerians and their fundamental right to life, property, and the pursuit of individual happiness. The mindless overreach of authority bespeaks a fundamental lack of awareness of the nature of the contract between Nigerians and their political representatives.

Let me draw this example: a governor of a state who uses an armed convoy and drives rough-shod through the streets, driving citizens out of the road to make way for him sets a very bad example. Governor Okorocha and all such state officials are still hung up on a terrible habit established under military rule in which military administrators saw government as an emergency and citizens as “ordinary civilians.”

The soldiers appropriated all kinds of power, including the power to ride in a sirened convoy of armed men to demonstrate the force of military rule. Such images have no place in a civil and elected government. An elected governor should have no more than a police orderly and an official driver and car for his use and only for official business.

Riding about in an armed convoy is mindless overreach; and uncivilized. Sirens were traditionally reserved for emergency vehicles: police in the pursuit of criminals; ambulances in conveying the sick to the casualty ward, the fire services on emergency runs, and used only on ceremonial occasions for conveying public officials.

There is no protocol under the rule of law that grants the governor of the state any more rights on the road than any other citizen. Governor Okorocha therefore breaks a fundamental law that needs to be addressed very urgently because it goes right up to the very soul of the rule of law. Does an elected governor have the right to drive other citizens of the state off the road by the use of armed force?

There is no place in the civilized world for such conduct and such primitive show of power. Did the governor break a law in ordering his so-called “security men” to beat up a citizen and thus taking the laws under his own hand as if Imo State is a jungle without courts or magistrates?

Before the law, the governor is equal to the least citizen in Imo State. His legitimacy is guaranteed by their consent. Mr. Okorocha ought to be brought to heel on these facts.

A governor who oversees the brutal molestation of a citizen of a state, simply on some infraction of a presumed privilege, is not fit for public office. It is incumbent therefore on the Imo State House of Assembly to do their duty as the elected guardians of the state, by opening up an investigation into this incident.

Complicity in the brutal, physical molestation of a citizen of the state, the senator’s driver, by the governor is an impeachable offence because it reduces not only the dignity of the office, but violates the oath of the governor’s office. It is about time we stopped tolerating the extreme and primitive behavior of people elected into public office to serve us who end up playing gods over us. As citizens, our greatest security is the rule of law.
